Social impact
For more than two decades of deep-rooted presence in China, Starbucks has remained unwavering in its commitment to integrating closely with local communities and growing alongside a flourishing China. Guided by our corporate mission and driven by a passion for social giving, we strive to deliver positive change to communities of all sizes.
Rooted in our organizational culture, Starbucks has developed a clear roadmap for its social impact strategy: aligning with China’s national development priorities, leveraging our industry leadership, and mobilizing integrated resources to address key challenges amid the country’s rapid social progress. Guided by this framework, Starbucks China has partnered with numerous domestic non-profit organizations to launch a diverse portfolio of social initiatives. These include fostering vibrant coffee farming communities in Yunnan, creating life-changing opportunities for underserved groups, empowering partner volunteers to engage in community service, and nurturing a culture of “Everyone for Good.” Between 2006 and 2024, we have contributed over RMB 227 million in cumulative charitable funding across China.
In July 2020, the Beijing Starbucks Foundation—founded by Starbucks—was officially registered and established with the Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau. Guided by the vision of “an inclusive society where everyone has equal opportunity,” the Foundation works to integrate Starbucks corporate resources and strengths, bridging social and commercial value to drive sustained progress in Chinese society.
In 2023, the Foundation participated in the social organization grading assessment for the first time and earned the 4A classification. As of August 2025, it has allocated over RMB 41 million in cumulative charitable funds to launch twelve public welfare projects, focusing on three core pillars: Thriving Communities, Inclusive Communities, and Resilient Communities. These initiatives span disaster relief, rural revitalization, inclusive employment for people with disabilities, the preservation of intangible cultural heritage, and the development of community-friendly spaces, among other key areas.
